Stillness On the Go
Sometimes traveling means having absolute quiet in a beautiful, perfect hotel room. Seems ideal, at first. However, I need some type of ambient noise to feel completely comfortable. I meditate daily. I find that life happening around me helps me to focus, therefore complete silence doesn't always work for me. I open a window and listen for birds singing. Or perhaps, the sound of moving traffic, or even the sound of water moving through the pipes. Yet, traveling and being in hotels can deny one opportunities for such sweet rattlings.
Therefore, I always travel with a USB powered fan. Even in the winter, I take it everywhere. It provides a steady hum that my conscious mind can focus on during meditation. I love it! As I drift into the bliss of non-thought, that ambient sound remains a constant point of focus for my mind to adhere to. Meditation slows my heart rate, relaxing my entire body. It raises my vibration and improves my mood. I become open to insights, creative thought, and sometimes just ready for the best quality sleep one can have after a long flight!
Try it! Share what interesting ways you prepare for your meditative practice.
